THE LAST FIVE MINUTES OF THE THIRD PERIOD
You’re into June, the month of finals. You may already be starting to check out, even noticing that some of your teachers are checking out, too. June is less heavy academically than the rest of the year. You’ve taken care of the bulk of the content. Motivation can be tough.
Last week, I blogged on techniques for staying motivated. You’ve got through the hardest high school month. It’s the 7th inning stretch—stand up, “Take me out to the ball game,” then finish off! There are just those last pieces of the puzzle to fit in. It comes down to keeping your focus on getting the rest of the work in, allowing for field trips, grad prep, some summer savouring, and maintaining your core self-care.
My single key pointer is time/self-management: Set deadlines. Schedule daily. Reinforce. And keep your eye on the goal. What would Conner McDonald do in the last five minutes of the third period? That’s where you are, that’s you, it’s your game!
