WHATEVER WORKS . . .

Two or three weeks left in the term, and I know many of you will be getting term projects and group projects wrapped and mentally preparing for the review you will be doing before finals. I blog a lot about challenges and problems, because that’s where coaching is most often targeted.

But today, rather than giving ways to improve your approach, I’m going to say stop. Stop and reflect back on the tools you have used that have been most useful.

Reflect on the positive changes you have made in your academic strategy and in your self-care. What habits and tools have you carried over from previous years?

All of these habits, tools, and strategies have got you this far in this term–endorse yourself for the effort you have made in maintaining, in learning new tools, in building new  habits.

The new skills and strategies will take time before they become habits. That’s partly why I want you to consider the strengths you brought into the term–they were already a part of your academic approach, your life approach, but they weren’t the first few times you used them, and you might have had setbacks before they became a regular thing for you.

So list those habits, strategies, and skills in your academic approach this term. Think about how they are going to continue to work for you over the next weeks. Whatever works . . . Keep doing that!

I was going to give examples, but no, I’m not. Some of you would see tactics in the examples that you think you “should” have been doing, or will think that you should start doing them now.

Make up your own example list of tools, habits and attitudes. Endorse. And keep on doing what has worked for you!
