WRAPPING IT UP
That most glorious weekend of summer: exams are done, done, done!! Whether you’re a high school student or a college student, it’s great to wrap it up! Let’s do that!
Administrivia: Return borrowed books; file away notes; back up hard drive notes and work. Get your lab deposit back.
Make sure you get the best from your effort
- Ensure you got credit for all work done.
- Mark your calendar to check back for grades and credit–enter reminders on your calendar so you aren’t obsessing about checking when you could be enjoying summer.
- Thank and get connections for friends, classmates–including that librarian that did the impossible!
Reflect
Sit down with yourself and be your own analyst. For each course, note what went well and what you want to keep in your strategic armoury. Note where things went off the rails, how you can be on the lookout for when it happens again, and what remedies worked (or didn’t). Note what tactics succeeded, and especially note how you have changed and grown. Endorse yourself for spending the time on this analysis.
Now, Reward!!!
Reward that person that got through March madness, that kept going even when not all was perfect, that got going again when they wobbled. The person that didn’t do a perfect job, but got the job done! That would be you. Take the reward you scheduled–and if there is any reason that you can’t take that particular reward, substitute another reward, but take it now.
Savour the Summer
Especially if you’ve just graduated from high school, enjoy this summer as a marker ending one stage of your life and anticipating the next in just a few months. As I remarked last week, you are moving from structure and care designed by others up until now to structure and care that you will have the freedom to design and seek out on your own this fall. Adulting gets real.
If you’re a college student, you have made that transition. Unless you’re doing summer courses, summer is a time to regroup. Take a breath, enjoy, and note how far you’ve come since you were a fresh high school grad.
And celebrate our countries!
Canada Day and Independence Day this week. Frustrated as we might be with politics in our countries, we can celebrate how very much we have to celebrate. We work to make it better, and we celebrate the many ways we can do that!
Doing a summer sprint?
More on that next week.
In the meantime, touch base with me to wrap up the details and to let me know how it went, how you’re enjoying your rewards, and maybe to plan for this fall [email protected] .
